Shalom
shalom (Hebrew)
Numbers 6:24-26
Wholeness and completeness, not merely the absence of conflict.
Shalom is usually translated peace, but the Hebrew idea is closer to wholeness. It describes something with nothing missing and nothing broken: relationships intact, debts settled, health restored.
That is why the blessing in Numbers 6 ends with shalom. It is not asking for quiet circumstances. It is asking for a life put back together in every part, which is a much larger request than the English word peace suggests.
