2 Corinthians 10:4-5
2 Corinthians 10:4-5
The weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty in God for pulling down strongholds.
Paul is defending his ministry against critics, and he redefines the fight: the weapons are not physical, and the targets are arguments and thoughts rather than people.
A stronghold in the passage is a way of thinking that has fortified itself against the knowledge of God. That makes the response mental and spiritual — taking thoughts captive — rather than a matter of force.
