Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil.
The command is to stand, not to advance. Four times in the passage Paul uses the language of standing and withstanding, which frames spiritual conflict as holding ground that has already been won.
The armor is described as God's own, and the word for whole armor is panoplia — the complete set. The stated purpose is resistance against schemes, which is why discernment matters as much as strength.
